Prepping for the Freeze: Crews work to remove snow, salt roads

The combination of dipping temperatures and light snowfall can cause havoc for morning commutes. Between February 9 and 10, temperatures dipped below freezing and a dusting of snow began to accumulate on roads, creating conditions for a slick drive.

WTAE News interviewed Chuck Lantzman about Snow and Ice Management's process for preventing dangerous road conditions, as well as about the 35,000 tons of road salt in our Swissvale facility.

Reporter Beau Berman climbed atop our mountain of road salt to demonstrate our massive supply of road salt. He also explained that, when temperatures dip below 15 degrees, our unique Go Green treated salt is more effective for preventing ice on roads, parking lots and sidewalks.

Road salt, Go Green and other de-icing products are available for purchase by the pallet from the Pittsburgh Salt Factory.

The full interview can be seen on WTAE's website.
