What is the shelf life of a bag of ice melt?

The shelf life of a bag of ice melt will depend on the basic components that make up the deicer being stored. Many ice melts that are stored in a dry location will generally have a shelf life of 3 - 5 years. However, it should be noted that some ice melt components such as a calcium chloride attract moisture easily. These components have a shorter shelf, around 1 - 2 years maximum. Storing these types of products in a cool dry environment is recommended.

Why are some ice melts colored?

It is easier for the applicator to see where they are applying the product. The color also helps the applicator see how much product has been applied.

Can ice melt damage my grass and shrubs?

Potentially. If over applied. The best way to avoid vegetation damage is to use a product that works fast and at a lower temperature. This allows for fewer applications, which means less exposure to vegetation. Magic Ice Melt is our recommended product to keep vegetation safe when applied correctly.
